Film poster analysis

1- BLADE RUNNER:
The poster consists of three different images that are almost merged together. One image is of a man who appears to be sweaty and he is holding a gun as a prop; this alludes to the fact that the genre could be action. Also, there are beams of light that shine from him. This implies that he could be the main protagonist of the film. The second image is of a woman who is smoking. her facial expressions demonstrate that she is serious about something as she is looks stern. The final image is overlooking a city and a spaceship is travelling towards it. This could be significant as it foreshadows what could happen within the city and what could potentially happen to the characters. The spaceship helps the audience to understand that the film could contain some sci-fi. Finally, the copy, "man made his match... now its his problem", suggests that the man on the poster has created trouble which resulted in him having to deal with it himself. Or, the audience could use the text to link the male and female together; potentially, he chose to be with her however, she has brought trouble into society and his life so he has to try and fix everything.

2- SCARY MOVIE 2:
The copy, "more merciless, more shameless", seems to be mocking horror movies therefore, the audience can recognise that it is a parody movie. Also, the audience can recognise that they are trying to mock horror films by the seven characters' facial expressions; they are pulling silly faces furthermore, they look like they are pretending to be scared. It is obvious that they are forcing their expressions due to the exaggeration that they create. The 'scary characters' are placed together in the top left. They are with all of the other characters and this is significant because it demonstrates how both groups will clash.

3- UZAK:
There is only one character on the poster and he is surrounded by snowy grounds; this connotes that it is winter. The audience is unable to see the man as he is facing with his back to the audience. He is wearing dark trousers and a long dark coat. The fact that he is wearing dark clothing and hiding his face creates suspicion as it is very unambiguous as we aren't exposed to much. this contradicts with the copy; the reviews say how the film is ''a joy'' therefore, it could have a happy ending.

4- I'M NOT SCARED:
There is an image of a boy looking into a hole in the ground. The shot is taken from a low angle therefore, it could mean that there is something beneath the ground which is potentially dangerous. The title implies that the boy is fearful of something however, the audience doesn't know what the fear is. The boy seems to be quite intimidated as his facial expressions communicate a sense of worry as he is looking into the hole in the ground where the camera is placed.

5- SIN CITY:
There are five characters together on the poster. There is one man in the middle who is slightly more in front of the rest of the group; this connotes that he is the main protagonist. Also, his eyes are shut. All of the characters are holding a weapon, specifically a gun; this implies that there will be death and violence in this film. Also, at the bottom, there is a small image of a figure who is surrounded by a white/ grey background. The contrast between white and black is strong therefore, it connotes that this character is evil as he stands out from the white.

6- PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, DEAD MAN'S CHEST:
There are three characters on the page. Only one is holding a gun and is wearing pirate clothing; this illustrates that he is the main protagonist and holds the power as he is the only person who has a gun. A picture of a ship is merged with the characters. The ship is sailing on a rough ocean and this can imply that the pirates have to face a hard battle.

7- PRIDE & PREJUDICE:
There are two characters who we can see clearly, they are standing ahead in the middle of nine other characters. Their positions and stance (they are looking up) could signify that they are the main characters and the movie focuses on them. The copy (review) suggests the possible genres that are included in this film: comedy (from the word “funny”) and love/ romance (from the word “romantic”).

8- MILLION DOLLAR BABY:
There are three characters on the poster, two men and one woman. The lighting is very dim however there is a strong contrast between black and white, this enhances certain features of the woman. The dark lighting illustrates an eerie atmosphere. The man on the right is wearing a black hat, this could perhaps imply that he is some sort of detective which means that it could be a crime film.

Billie Jean- Michael Jackson

1)The budget for Billie Jean was budgeted at $50,000. This differed to his other videos as their budgets were much higher. For example: Thriller's budget was $1million. 2)MTV rejected the video as it 'didn't fit their middle America audience'. 3)Billie Jean reflects the genre characteristics of pop music video. It contains lip-syncing, performance interwoven with narrative, dance routines and high fashion costume. 4)The visuals reflect the lyrics in the video as ultimately, the video is based on fan girls who claim that he/ his brothers are the parents of their babies. Key lyrics are amplified through the visuals. The actual video is about a girl: 'Billie Jean'. We never actually see her as a character however, we are presented with other images of females in general with whom he comes into contact with. For example: the billboard with the women's faces that are displayed or the figure who is already laying in he bed at the hotel. 5)The video features fe...
