Film poster analysis

1- BLADE RUNNER: The poster consists of three different images that are almost merged together. One image is of a man who appears to be sweaty and he is holding a gun as a prop ; this alludes to the fact that the genre could be action . Also, there are beams of light that shine from him. This implies that he could be the main protagonist of the film. The second image is of a woman who is smoking. her facial expressions demonstrate that she is serious about something as she is looks stern. The final image is overlooking a city and a spaceship is travelling towards it. This could be significant as it foreshadows what could happen within the city and what could potentially happen to the characters. The spaceship helps the audience to understand that the film could contain some sci-fi. Finally, the copy , "man made his match... now its his problem", suggests that the man on the poster has created trouble which resulted in him having to deal with it himself. Or, the audience co...

BBFC- Film Regulation

1)The BBFC are responsible for giving films an appropriate age certification; they provide families and children guidance to choose what is appropriate for them to watch and what isn't. Also, they are there to prevent offence to the public caused by sex/ nudity, violence, bad language or decency. The council sorts out the BBFC's financial affairs and is responsible for senior appointments however, they aren't involved with age rating. 2)Compliance officers watch many films during their working day. They usually watch DVD's and episodes from TV series that are aimed at young childeren of which are already broadcasted on TV alone; this is called 'solo viewing'. Films for cinema release are classified by teams of two as well as controversial or extreme content. This creates a range of opinion. The compliance officers watch films in the BBFC's cinema in order to experiemce the whole effect that imagery, editing, sound levels and special affects will have on a ...

CHICKEN- case study

Funding: 1) The budget for chicken was £110,000. 2)Stephenson raised money through investment by individuals; could be rich friends or contacts. 3)The budget is much lower than a popular film as it used less equipment and scences therefore it was cheaper to film unlike an expensive film to make. 4)The BFI Film Fund uses National Lottery funds in order to develop and support original UK filmmakers and films and to increase the audiences. 5)I think that 'Chicken' failed to secure funding from the BFI Film Fund as the topics within the film could potentially make the audience feel uncomfortable therefore, they wouldn't make much money from it. Production: 1)The weather made it difficult to film as most of the shots were filmed outside. 2)The film took 19 days to shoot. 3)The most difficult shots to film were the outside shots. Distribution: 1)In 2014, the film failed to secure a distribution deal due to the BFI not funding the film; it suggested that the film woul...

Film noir research

Film noir translates to 'black film' or 'dark film'. It is a cinematic term which mainly describes stylish Hollywood crime dramas; specifically the ones which emphasise cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. The classical time period is generally regarded as extending from the 1940s- the late 1950s. in that particular era, film noir was associated with a low-key black and white visual style . Film noir has specific character types. One of the characters is a woman who is seen as seductive and she usually charms the protagonist but sometimes leads the protagonist to dangerous situations. The protagonist is a male- he is often trapped by the woman, putting him in danger. Chiaroscuro is used in film noir; it is a type of lighting which creates a strong contrast between light and dark. The boldness of the contrast affects the whole composition . Also, in film noir, chiaroscuro creates striking hyper- real visuals. VIDEO:   Film noir This clip fits in the film n...

Mise-en-scene blog task

This is mise-en-scene is taken from the famous 'Titanic'. Jack (Leonardo Di Caprio) is holding Rose (Kate Winslet). The medium shot is taken at a side angle so that the audience can see the characters and the beautiful sunset in the background this creates a sense of romance as they are in a calm scene together and alone. This is set outside and this could mean that because it is just those two, time is passing and that doesn't matter to them as it seems that they mean a lot to each other and that's all that matters to them at that moment. The high-key lighting is very warm, this creates a peaceful atmosphere therefore, it could relate to the theme of love or romance or relationships as the man is hugging the woman; he is showing affection. Also, the lighting destroys any harshness from the characters faces; it could link back to the idea of love because it involves two people who care for each other. You can only see the woman's costume ; it is old fashion a...

Lighting: still image analysis

This image has low-key lighting therefore, we can't see the character's face fully so the audience is unable to connect with them. Aswell as having low-key lighting, there is also back lighting ; you can see this at the side of the character's face which sort of creates a silhouette. The back lighting creates a dark and mysterious tone which implies that this specific woman is superior. The most obvious lighting is top lighting because it highlights the top of the character's body/ face from above. The rest of the picture has no other lighting which creates a sense of mystery. The high-key lighting in this image ensures that the audience can see the character's whole face, including his expressions and body language. His facial expression is very serious and his body language expresses a high amount of dominance as he looks as if he is looking down. In this image, there is a top light which highlights half of the character's face and part of his shou...

Sound video feedback and learner response

https://youtu.be/KWH340MQKBk Sir's feedback: First piece of music/ video is brilliantly parallel- it is very effective. Are these two pieces of video/ audio or was that the original soundtrack? Contrapuntal clip gets a big laugh from the class- show's that the choice of music was effective! Images for contrapuntal section well selected- lot's of wide shots (e.g. gravestones) that emphasise the emotion of the scene and therefore contrast with the music well. Doesn't quite meet the brief which is something to consider in future but clear understanding of sound is shown. Class feedback: WWW The contrapuntal music made everyone react. There was a clear switch from parallel to contrapuntal. The contrapuntal music made the video seem funny. The parallel music fit the visuals very well. The music made it entertaining. Class feedback:  EBI Find music that is more contrapuntal. Could have used more images/ videos. It was too long.
