Mise-en-scene blog task

This is mise-en-scene is taken from the famous 'Titanic'. Jack (Leonardo Di Caprio) is holding Rose (Kate Winslet). The medium shot is taken at a side angle so that the audience can see the characters and the beautiful sunset in the background this creates a sense of romance as they are in a calm scene together and alone. This is set outside and this could mean that because it is just those two, time is passing and that doesn't matter to them as it seems that they mean a lot to each other and that's all that matters to them at that moment. The high-key lighting is very warm, this creates a peaceful atmosphere therefore, it could relate to the theme of love or romance or relationships as the man is hugging the woman; he is showing affection. Lighting: still image analysis

This image has low-key lighting therefore, we can't see the character's face fully so the audience is unable to connect with them. Aswell as having low-key lighting, there is also back lighting ; you can see this at the side of the character's face which sort of creates a silhouette. The back lighting creates a dark and mysterious tone which implies that this specific woman is superior. The most obvious lighting is top lighting because it highlights the top of the character's body/ face from above. The rest of the picture has no other lighting which creates a sense of mystery. The high-key lighting in this image ensures that the audience can see the character's whole face, including his expressions and body language.
